Horsin’ Around Bucks County

By: Kara Hinrichs | 1 Comment

I’ve always been fascinated by horses and to this day still have a desire to learn how to ride.  Growing up in Bucks County, I was exposed to horseback riding very often.  When I asked if I could take horseback riding lessons, I was immediately turned down, “What do you need that for?”  My dreams [...]

Recycling the Rails

By: Karen Hendricks | No Comments

The idea of converting unused railroad lines into recreational trails isn’t particularly new.  However, given today’s hot topics such as recycling, it’s easy to see why the rails-to-trails movement is right “on track” with being green and environmentally-friendly.  And best of all, using rail trails is lots of fun for all ages!
My family discovered the [...]

West Penn Trail: Saltsburg to Conemaugh Dam

By: Pat Kobela | No Comments

This is an awesome trail but it’s not your typical Rails to Trails; it’s not family friendly or for anyone that doesn’t like hills.  It switches to single track about 5 miles into the run.  A large sign and the symbolic three boulders mark the entrance.
The rails to trails portion runs along the river at [...]

Our family took our first summer trip this to Pine Grove Furnace State Park Cumberland County PA.  We had two reasons for going, one was to visit the new Appalachian Trail Museum and the other was to take our smaller kids on a “hike” on the trail.

More Than A Bike Ride Through Valley Forge National Park

By: Jan Garrabrandt | No Comments

The first bike ride of the year is usually challenging.  It’s a process of waking up muscles that haven’t been used all winter and trying to adjust to sitting on skinny bike seats.  This year was no exception.  We couldn’t even remember how to get the bikes secured to the bike rack!  Ah, but life [...]

The (plenty of) Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen State Park

By: Pat Kobela | No Comments

I’ve hiked the Falls Trail at Ricketts Glen numerous times but never get tired of it.  Each time I go I’m fascinated by the waterfalls and the proximity that I can get to the falls.   The Falls Trail received Backpacker Magazine People’s Favorite Trail Award last year and I can see why.  Although it’s consider [...]

33 Miles on the Ghost Town Trail

By: Pat Kobela | 4 Comments

When there is an 80 degree day in April it’s time to get out. So I got out to Indiana County, PA to ride 33 miles on the Ghost Town Trail from Ebensburg to Black Lick, PA.
The first seven miles moved rather quickly with several first signs of spring appearing: overflowing creeks, yellow baby [...]

Get Outside

By: Brent Postal | No Comments

To experience that first streak of 60 degree weather is to experience a jolt of adrenaline. While it’s not exactly hot, it sure feels like it is after months and months of snow and ice. I’ve seen people in shorts and t-shirts already. This weather makes me want to do one thing [...]

Rainy Day…Perfect for the Endurance Sports Expo

By: Ray Adams | 1 Comment

Last weekend, Nancy, my bike buddies, and I attended the Liberty Sports Endurance Sports Expo in Oaks, PA.  Oaks is 30 minutes northwest of Philly, and there is a huge expo center there.  We had a great time chatting with folks, checking out new bike stuff, and seeing what all sorts of vendors were promoting.  [...]
