We loaded up our family this weekend to make a shopping trip for some school clothes and clothes shopping for our family always means a trip to the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg. Normally we are not fans of outlets, but this particular set of outlets is wonderful. No matter how many cars are in the [...]

Kevin Eubanks signed off from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno at the end of May, after playing with the band for 18 years, 15 of which were spent as bandleader. He jokingly said, “After 18 of playing America into commercials, I’m gonna go somewhere where I can finish a song.”
This Pennsylvania native and consummate guitarist [...]

My wife and I took our annual spring break pilgrimage to Gettysburg and the Pennsylvania Dutch Country in March. Our first stop, was Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum and Gift Shop in Orrtana, PA; a tremendously kitschy & nostalgic site with some of the best deals on candy you can find. Mister Ed is a local legend, [...]

It’s hard to find a more inspirational place than Gettysburg. From the charming Civil War era downtown to the hallowed battlefields, Gettysburg’s scenery triggers inspiration of many kinds. This amazing backdrop of history, countryside and battlefield inspired my artistic side recently. The swift approach of springtime helped as well!
And so I set out, camera in hand, attempting to capture [...]

A relative, knowing my love of all things South Central PA, gave me a copy of the independent film Route 30 for Christmas. This film, written and directed by Chambersburg native John Putch focuses on three distinct, but interwoven stories in the area between Chambersburg and Gettysburg. Some of the notable actors in the film [...]

My friend’s birthday is in October and we went on a double date with our husbands to celebrate. We started the evening at the Dobbin House. It must be the greatest restaurant in Gettysburg since it already has two posts. Actually one of my colleagues, John, would say it’s the greatest restaurant in all of [...]

My friend and I were in Gettysburg a few weeks ago looking for some place to enjoy dinner. Someone told us that The Dobbin House (http://www.dobbinhouse.com/) was the best fine dining establishment in town and since we were looking for something unique to Gettysburg, we ventured out to find it.
We were pleasantly surprised to drive [...]

The historic Dobbin House in Gettysburg is one of my favorites places to take guests, friends, and business customers for a fine dining experience on the battlefield. During the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, this home was in the line of battle. Constructed in the late 18th century of local field stone, it was used [...]

Civil War reenacting and/or living history can be a rewarding (and expensive) hobby. Perhaps the best thing of reenactments and living history presentations are the kids who attend, many of which (like my grandson) are wide-eyed at the chance to see (and talk with) the “soldiers,” whether in blue, gray, or butternut.
I have known many [...]

Kids of all ages (as well as many adults) will enjoy the summer program of Civil War reenactors that is featured by the Gettysburg National Military Park in southern Pennsylvania’s Adams County. Every weekend, at least one (and often multiple) Civil War groups camp in the park, usually in a field southeast of the towering [...]
