Won’t You Join Me For Afternoon Tea?
Now that cooler weather is here, my assortment of tea cups have a permanent place on my desk. I am a tea junkie – black, green, oolong, white, herbal or fruit-flavored, it all warms my soul. While some may debate the merits of going to “high tea”, it doesn’t have to be as stuffy and formal as you might think. In fact, I’m hooked on high teas – especially the ones at the Victoria House in Lewisburg.
About a year ago, I decided to have my birthday celebration during one of the Victoria House’s high teas. It was a first for most of my guests. Some came in flowery skirts, big hats, and feather boas, while others attended in more casual garb. Everyone had a great time though, thanks to the ambiance and service at the Victoria House, located just 2 miles outside of downtown Lewisburg on Route 45.
Ever since then, I find the high tea to be a great excuse to gather some friends together on a random Wednesday, sip tea, eat mini-desserts, and just talk about “girl stuff” for a few hours.
To give you an idea of what they offer, here’s what the high tea includes this month (Wednesday, October 14) although the menu changes from month to month…
Tea Selections
Ginseng Peppermint (Decaf)
Carmel Apple
Finger Sandwich Selections
Trick or Treat Turkey Triangle
Haunted Ham Salad on Wheat
Wicked Roast Beef and Swiss on Ciabatta w/ Horseradish Sauce
Classic Cucumber
Pumpkin Bread with Pecan Cream Cheese
Fresh Baked Scone
Sugar and Spice with Whipped Cream and Preserves
Dessert Miniatures
Haystacks
Carmel Apple Tarts
Halloween Honey Treats
Ghoulish Ganache
Pumpkin Cheesecake
At $12 a person, it can’t be beat. So, if you’re in the area on the Second or Third Wednesday of the month (it varies), then consider attending this fun event.
Of course, there are many coffee houses that offer great tea, too, but nothing quite beats a “tea room”. Another great place for tea in Susquehanna River Valley is Sarah’s Teacup, located at 26 South Market Street, in downtown Selinsgrove. It’s cozy and features hot tea, warm scones, and lots of reading books. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Do you know of other tea rooms or high teas in the Susquehanna River Valley? If so, tell me about it.
