It’s Bike Season Again
Don’t let this guy fool you; he’s from Ohio. But I guess even Ohioans are allowed to enjoy an adventure in Pennsylvania once in a while! The crushed limestone Montour Trail is an excellent place to take a weekend bike ride, jog or walk.
Eventually, the plan is to extend the trail 46 miles from Moon Township near Coraopolis to Clairton. Although there are still some bridges to complete and some trails to clear, there are plenty of long stretches with interesting scenery: lighted tunnels, railroad bridges, small towns, and right now, bunnies everywhere.
We found that starting at the Montour Road entrance allowed for plenty of parking and the ability to explore both directions on the trail. There are often picnic benches and gazebos, which are great places to take a rest or bring a picnic. And some local residents even sell water and other drinks from their businesses that border the trail.
If you’re careful at a few road crossings and watch for a stray neighborhood dog once in a while, I’d vote the Montour Trail as one of the best local places to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather in Pennsylvania. I’m looking forward myself to seeing the parts of the trail I haven’t yet discovered.
