Discovering the Children’s Museum in Downtown Bloomsburg
Downtown Bloomsburg is known for many things – it’s the only incorporated “town” in Pennsylvania (You probably didn’t know that, but yes, it’s true), it’s home to Bloomsburg University so it has that great college town ”vibe”, and it features dozens of unique boutique shops, cafes, bars and eateries.
But it’s also home to a museum that I just recently discovered – the Children’s Museum. While I don’t have any kids, I am certainly a kid at heart, and I’ve always been enthralled by scientific experiments that can be done at home (yes, I’ve made a volcano explode in my parents’ kitchen). So, when my employer decided to take the volunteers of our Visitor Info Center in Lewisburg to the museum last Thursday, I was eager to find out more.
The Children’s Museum is located on West 7th Street in Bloomsburg and is broken up into various exhibits – nature, health and hygiene, interactive art and culture, music, science, history, and much more. My faves? The giant set of teeth (teaching kids about dental hygiene) and the science exhibits (think dinosaurs and static electricity, although not in the same exhibit, obviously). The best part of the day was definitely watching elementary school kids put their hands on a sphere charged with static electricity and watching their hair stand on end. What fun! Simple science experiments never get old, do they?
So, if you’re looking for a way to get out of the heat on a hot summer day, or have a child of your own to look after on a rainy day, check out this local treasure in downtown Bloomsburg.
